Limp Bizkit began back in 1994 in the town of Jacksonville, Florida. Everything got put into motion when the band's vocalist, Fred Durst, teamed up with his longtime friend, and bass player, Sam "I am" Rivers. Limp Bizkit's rhythm section was solidified soon after, when Rivers brought aboard his cousin, jazz drummer John Otto. Guitarist Wes Borland was soon added and Limp Bizkit was soon on their way.
The name Limp Bizkit came from Fred Durst, when his friend made a comment saying his brain was like a limp biscuit. When Fred notice that catchy phrase, he took it as his own, and that quickly be came the official name of the band. It went through a spelling change, but you get the idea!
Early in Limp Bizkit's career they meet up with KoRn, who was playing a show in Jacksonville. KoRn loved Fred's skin-art and they became good friends. The next time KoRn had a show there, Fred gave them one of their demo tapes. KoRn promised to give it to Ross Robinson, their producer. They did, he loved it and soon they were building a name for themselves. They were landing tour slots with big names like the Deftones and House of Pain.
About a year and a half before the release their debut album (Three Dollar Bill Yall'$) on July 1, 1997 they picked up former House of Pain turntablist, DJ Lethal. That gave them a little hip hop sound in their music. The album did great, it has sold nearly a million and a half.
After the great response of fans, records sales, and sold out concerts they had started to build an empire of hard core Limp Bizkit freaks. They landed spots in giant tours like Ozzfest, the Warped Tour, and was the main band in the Family Values Tour. From all this touring they had gained the attention of everyone.
"Faith", a remake of the George Michaels song and the second hit off their debut release and was a TRL hit. Just a few months earlier they were the most haded band because they paid a raido station in Potlad in play their first hit "Counterfeit".
They had the whole world at their finger tips when they released their second album, "Significant Other"on June 22, 1999. Which in fact happened to sell more then half a million copies in it's first week of sales. The first hit, "Nookie" blew up, it was retired on TRL because of too much play. Right after they released "Rearranged", which wasn't exactly the biggest or greatest song. But, it had an awesome video! By now they knew they had something going!
At the Mtv New Year's Eve celebration for 98, Fred meet up with Method Man, they became friends and decided to collaborate. With in turn was a huge hit also. "N 2 Gether Now" showed exactly what rapping skills Durst had. And in the fall of 99' they had the "Family Values" tour.
In the summer of 2000 they got stuck right in the middle of the Napster controversy. They felt as though Napster was just for sampling, and that the people who use Napster would wind up buying the record anyway. Napster also provided them with a free tour, how cool is that?! Soon after they recorded the theme song for Mission Impossible II, "Take a Look Around". Which won an award for best rock video at the Mtv VMA's of 2000, but the video wasn't released to the United States until their Playboy Bash for the release of their third album, "Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water" on October 17, 2000.
The album rose to the top of all the charts by selling well over a million copies in it's first week of sales. It was the first rock album to ever sell that much in it's first week! Even before the release it two hits, "Rollin'" and "My Generation". Both hits reached #1 on TRL! They also had a third hit off that same album called "My Way". And here they are today, making millions, proforming in front of millions, making people cry, laugh, sigh, and totally freak! Which proves my theory, that they are the GREATEST band ever!
